Movers in Manteca

Manteca has the tightest clock of any city we work in. Its code treats anything over 20 feet as an “oversized vehicle”, bars those from residential street parking Monday to Friday, and allows loading or unloading as an exception for no more than twenty-four hours. A 26-foot truck is over the line on length before it is over it on weight.

The good news is that the permit that fixes this is free. Hourly rates start at $159 for two movers and a fully equipped truck, priced online before anyone comes to your door.

Moving in Manteca: what affects your day

The 24-hour rule is the one that matters. Manteca Municipal Code 10.46.030 defines an oversized vehicle as one over twenty feet in length, seven feet in height or seven feet in width. Section 10.46.060(A) prohibits parking those on residential streets Monday through Friday, federal holidays excepted — so weekends are genuinely unrestricted. Section 10.46.060(B)(1) then allows “loading, unloading, or cleaning” as long as the vehicle is on the street for no more than twenty-four hours. A single-day move is comfortably inside that. A load-out spread across Monday to Wednesday is not.

There is a free permit for the longer job, and almost nobody knows about it. Sections 10.46.080 to 10.46.110 let the police chief issue an oversized-vehicle permit with, in the code’s own words, “no fee charged”. It runs up to five consecutive calendar days, capped at ten days in any ninety-day period, and must be applied for in advance. If your move needs the truck on the street for more than a day, this is the answer and it costs nothing.

Weight is where Manteca gets unusual. Section 10.52.010(B) sets a citywide gross weight limit of eight thousand pounds on any street in the city — far stricter than the three-to-five ton limits typical of neighbouring cities. Moffat Boulevard, Lathrop Road, South Main below Moffat and part of Grant Street are exempted. Section 10.52.030(B) exempts vehicles “making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on such restricted streets”, which is what a move is. We read that exemption as covering a household move; whether it also lifts the citywide 8,000-pound limit is genuinely ambiguous on the face of the code, so we confirm the route with the city rather than assume it.

One more, if your truck has a lift gate or a reefer unit. Section 10.52.060(A) prohibits running an auxiliary engine between ten p.m. and seven a.m. within 250 feet of a residential district, for vehicles over ten thousand pounds. It rules out a late-night finish with the power unit running.

There is no curb-reservation permit in Manteca and no tow-away sign program — we checked the parking chapter, the streets title and the engineering permit list. Nothing reserves the space for you, so where access is tight we plan to arrive early.

Code sections and fees change. We re-check with the city before move day rather than relying on what was true last year.

Permit and access details confirmed against the city's own published guidance. Rules change — we re-check before move day.

Double drive time applies when pickup and delivery are more than ten miles apart. A move inside Manteca falls under that line; Manteca to Stockton, Tracy or Modesto is over it. Your quote shows which way yours lands before you book.

Questions about moving in Manteca

Can a moving truck park on my street in Manteca?

Yes, for up to twenty-four hours. A 26-foot truck counts as an oversized vehicle because it is over twenty feet long, and those are barred from residential streets Monday to Friday — but loading and unloading is an express exception capped at twenty-four hours. Weekends are not restricted at all.

What if my move takes more than one day?

Manteca issues a free oversized-vehicle permit through the police chief. No fee, up to five consecutive days, and a maximum of ten days in any ninety-day period. It has to be applied for in advance, so tell us early and we will plan around the lead time.

Do I need to post no-parking signs in Manteca?

No. Manteca has no curb-reservation permit or tow-away sign program — unlike Sacramento, which requires signs seventy-two hours ahead. The trade-off is that nothing holds the space for you, so if your street is narrow or parking is tight, say so when you book and we will arrive early.

FAQ

How much does a move cost?

Rates start at $159/hour for two movers and a 16ft truck, $199/hour for three movers and a 26ft truck, $249/hour for four, and $299/hour for five. Add a one-time $99 flat rate for truck and gas, whatever truck size you need. You price the job yourself online — pick your crew, date and addresses and the quote comes back in minutes. No in-home visit, no sales call.

What isn’t included in the hourly rate?

Six things, all of them listed up front: the $99 flat rate for truck and gas; packing supplies such as boxes, paper and bubble wrap; a $200 handling fee for any single item over 250 lbs (piano, gun safe, pool table, treadmill, massage chair); double drive time when your two addresses are more than 10 miles apart; overnight storage; and custom crating or specialty handling for antiques and delicate pieces.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Smoove holds MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services and USDOT 3810402 with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and carries up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover. Basic cargo protection for your household goods is included in every move. Both license numbers are public records — look them up before you book, with us or anyone else.

What areas do you serve?

The Sacramento region and the Bay Area — more than 70 cities, from Auburn and Elk Grove through to San Jose and Walnut Creek. We also handle long-distance moves within California, originating in either region. We are not currently authorized for interstate moves, so if you are leaving the state we will tell you straight away and point you to a carrier who is.

For thirteen of those cities we have written up the local parking rules, permits and truck access, and what each one actually means on move day: Sacramento, West Sacramento, Folsom, Rocklin, Placerville, El Dorado Hills, Stockton, Manteca, San Francisco, San Mateo, Walnut Creek, Vallejo and Petaluma.
