Do you need a permit for the truck? For an ordinary house or apartment move in West Sacramento, no. The city’s Transportation Permit applies to oversize loads only, meaning over 8 feet 6 inches wide, 14 feet high, or 40 feet long for a single vehicle. A 26-foot moving truck is under all three. If a job does need one, a single-trip permit is $16 and covers five days, an annual is $90, and the city asks for five business days’ notice.
Crossing the river changes that. The City of Sacramento requires an approved parking space reservation to hold curb space, with tow-away signs posted at least 72 hours before the truck arrives and photographs sent to the city as proof. Three miles and one bridge apart, and it is completely different paperwork. If your move crosses into Sacramento, tell us at least three days ahead so the reservation is in place.
Access is what moves the price. On an hourly job, how close the truck can stop to your door matters more than the distance between addresses. We check it before quoting. If you are in one of the newer riverfront or Southport apartment buildings, tell us about elevator booking and loading-dock hours when you ask for a quote. If you are in a house with a driveway, there is usually nothing to arrange.
Permit rules change. We re-check with the city before move day rather than relying on what was true last year.
