Heavy Item Movers in Sacramento

Gym equipment, marble, machinery, safes, hot tubs — the things that are too heavy for a regular crew and too valuable to risk on a rental truck and a favour.

icon-8 always on time

Past a certain weight it stops being about strength

Four strong people can lift almost anything once. The question is what happens on the third step, or when the weight shifts, or when someone’s grip goes — because at 600 pounds nobody catches it. Heavy items are moved with equipment and a planned route rather than with effort, which is why a trained crew does it faster and without anyone getting hurt.

Ask us before you book

Not sure how many hours your move will take, or whether your building's rules will slow the day down? Send us the two addresses and roughly what's moving, and we'll tell you straight — no site visit, no sales call.

Why this is a different job

The route gets planned first

Before the day we work out which doorway, which turn, how many people, and whether the floor at either end takes the load. Most heavy-item damage isn’t dropping something — it’s discovering halfway that it doesn’t fit.

Our own crew, and covered

Everyone on the job is on our payroll — trained, certified and background-checked. We’re licensed, insured and bonded: MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, USDOT 3810402 with FMCSA, carrying up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover.

What counts as heavy

Gym equipment. Squat racks, multi-gyms, treadmills, weight stacks and plates.

Safes. Gun safes and home safes — see our safe moving page for the detail.

Stone and glass. Marble tops, granite slabs, large aquariums, glass tables.

Machinery and tools. Workshop equipment, table saws, lathes, welders.

Outdoor items. Hot tubs, garden statuary, planters, grills.

Pianos. A category of their own — there’s a separate page for those.

Commercial equipment. Server racks, copiers, industrial appliances.

Tell us what it is — make and model is ideal — plus the route at both ends and what the floors are. You’ll have a price online.

What we need to know

The weight. A model number is enough. 400 pounds and 1,200 pounds are different jobs with different crews.

The tightest point on the route. Usually a doorway or a stair turn. Measure it.

The floors. Tile, hardwood and laminate all mark under concentrated weight. Tell us and they get protected.

Whether it comes apart. Most gym equipment and many hot tubs do, and disassembly is often cheaper than the extra crew.

If you’re not sure, send a photo when you quote. It answers most of these at once.

What it costs. The crew is billed hourly from $159, plus a flat $99 truck and fuel charge. Any single item over 250 lbs carries a $200 handling fee — that’s the threshold this page exists for, so assume it applies. If your two addresses are more than 10 miles apart, drive time is billed at double.

Two items over 250 lbs means two handling fees. Worth knowing before you book a garage full of gym equipment.

Related services

Some heavy items have their own page because the handling differs: piano moving and gun safe and safe moving. If the piece is valuable as well as heavy — a sculpture, a stone table, an antique — see fine art and delicate items. For ordinary furniture under 250 lbs there’s no handling fee at all; that’s just furniture moving. Gym equipment, safes and server racks in a business move are covered under commercial moving.

FAQ

How much does a move cost?

Rates start at $159/hour for two movers and a 16ft truck, $199/hour for three movers and a 26ft truck, $249/hour for four, and $299/hour for five. Add a one-time $99 flat rate for truck and gas, whatever truck size you need. You price the job yourself online — pick your crew, date and addresses and the quote comes back in minutes. No in-home visit, no sales call.

What isn’t included in the hourly rate?

Six things, all of them listed up front: the $99 flat rate for truck and gas; packing supplies such as boxes, paper and bubble wrap; a $200 handling fee for any single item over 250 lbs (piano, gun safe, pool table, treadmill, massage chair); double drive time when your two addresses are more than 10 miles apart; overnight storage; and custom crating or specialty handling for antiques and delicate pieces.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Smoove holds MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services and USDOT 3810402 with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and carries up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover. Basic cargo protection for your household goods is included in every move. Both license numbers are public records — look them up before you book, with us or anyone else.

What areas do you serve?

The Sacramento region and the Bay Area — more than 70 cities, from Auburn and Elk Grove through to San Jose and Walnut Creek. We also handle long-distance moves within California, originating in either region. We are not currently authorized for interstate moves, so if you are leaving the state we will tell you straight away and point you to a carrier who is.

For thirteen of those cities we have written up the local parking rules, permits and truck access, and what each one actually means on move day: Sacramento, West Sacramento, Folsom, Rocklin, Placerville, El Dorado Hills, Stockton, Manteca, San Francisco, San Mateo, Walnut Creek, Vallejo and Petaluma.
