Movers in Vallejo

Vallejo is the strictest city on this list for one specific thing: the truck may be at your curb only while the loading is actually happening. Its code bars parking a motor truck of ten thousand pounds or more on any public street “during all hours of the day”, and the exception runs only “for such period of time that the loading or unloading operation is actually in progress”.

Staging the night before, or leaving the loaded truck while the crew breaks for lunch, is outside that wording. Hourly rates start at $159 for two movers and a fully equipped truck, priced online before anyone comes to your door.

Moving in Vallejo: what affects your day

No parking, at any hour, with one narrow exception. Vallejo Municipal Code 8.24.010(T) prohibits stopping, standing or parking a motor truck with a gross vehicle weight of ten thousand pounds or more on any public street or alley “during all hours of the day”. The exemption is specific: a commercial vehicle “actively engaged in the delivery or receipt of appliances, equipment, furniture, household goods, materials, merchandise, passengers or supplies” at, among other places, a residence — and “then only for such period of time that the loading or unloading operation is actually in progress”. Household goods are named outright, so a move is covered. What is not covered is the truck sitting there when nobody is working.

A second, lower threshold in residential districts. Section 8.24.010(Q) applies the same kind of ban in a residence district to any motor truck with a manufacturer’s rated capacity over three-quarters of a ton — a much smaller vehicle than most people picture. It carries a parallel loading exemption.

Almost every street in Vallejo is weight-restricted. Section 8.36.014 bars any vehicle over a maximum gross weight of five tons from “local streets”, and section 8.36.012 defines local streets as every street in the city except Interstate 80, Interstate 780, State Highway 29 and State Highway 37. The exceptions include a permit, a designated truck route, or a “local delivery or pickup”, which section 8.36.024 defines as direct-route ingress and egress “for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street”. A move qualifies, and the code requires the shortest possible route between a truck route or highway and your address.

The truck route list is not published. Section 8.36.040 declares truck routes to be the streets described in “a city council resolution on file at the city clerk’s office”. No street list appears anywhere in the traffic title, so the approach cannot be verified from the code and has to be confirmed with the city.

There is no curb-reservation permit. We checked the traffic title, the Public Works and Special Use permit lists, the Park Vallejo program and the published fee schedule. The only temporary sign authority is the city’s own, under section 8.40.040, for assemblages and similar causes — there is no application, no fee and no process for a resident.

Rules change. We re-check with the city before move day rather than relying on what was true last year.

Permit and access details confirmed against the city's own published guidance. Rules change — we re-check before move day.

Double drive time applies when pickup and delivery are more than ten miles apart. A move inside Vallejo falls under that line; Vallejo to Napa, Fairfield or across to Sacramento is over it. Your quote shows which way yours lands before you book.

Questions about moving in Vallejo

Can the moving truck wait outside my house in Vallejo?

Only while loading or unloading is actually happening. Vallejo bars trucks of ten thousand pounds or more from parking on any street at any hour, and the exemption — which does name household goods at a residence — applies only for as long as the operation is in progress. It is the reason we do not stage a truck the night before in Vallejo.

Do I need a permit or no-parking signs in Vallejo?

No, and there is no permit to get. Vallejo has no curb-reservation or temporary no-parking program for residents. The only temporary sign power in the code belongs to the city itself, for public assemblies and similar events, with no application process.

Is there a weight limit on Vallejo streets?

Yes, and it is unusually broad. Nothing over five tons may use a local street, and the code defines local streets as every street in the city except I-80, I-780, Highway 29 and Highway 37. Deliveries and pickups to a building on the street are exempt by direct route, which is what a move is — but the designated truck routes exist only in a council resolution held by the city clerk, so we confirm the approach rather than assume it.

FAQ

How much does a move cost?

Rates start at $159/hour for two movers and a 16ft truck, $199/hour for three movers and a 26ft truck, $249/hour for four, and $299/hour for five. Add a one-time $99 flat rate for truck and gas, whatever truck size you need. You price the job yourself online — pick your crew, date and addresses and the quote comes back in minutes. No in-home visit, no sales call.

What isn’t included in the hourly rate?

Six things, all of them listed up front: the $99 flat rate for truck and gas; packing supplies such as boxes, paper and bubble wrap; a $200 handling fee for any single item over 250 lbs (piano, gun safe, pool table, treadmill, massage chair); double drive time when your two addresses are more than 10 miles apart; overnight storage; and custom crating or specialty handling for antiques and delicate pieces.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Smoove holds MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services and USDOT 3810402 with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and carries up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover. Basic cargo protection for your household goods is included in every move. Both license numbers are public records — look them up before you book, with us or anyone else.

What areas do you serve?

The Sacramento region and the Bay Area — more than 70 cities, from Auburn and Elk Grove through to San Jose and Walnut Creek. We also handle long-distance moves within California, originating in either region. We are not currently authorized for interstate moves, so if you are leaving the state we will tell you straight away and point you to a carrier who is.

For thirteen of those cities we have written up the local parking rules, permits and truck access, and what each one actually means on move day: Sacramento, West Sacramento, Folsom, Rocklin, Placerville, El Dorado Hills, Stockton, Manteca, San Francisco, San Mateo, Walnut Creek, Vallejo and Petaluma.
