Moving Out of State from Sacramento
Leaving California? Straight answer first: we're licensed for moves within California, not interstate — so if you're crossing a state line we'll tell you on the call and point you to a carrier who is authorized. For moves inside California, the crew that loads your home is on our payroll, trained and background-checked.
always on time
The questions that only matter on an interstate move
Across town, the worst case is a long day. Across state lines, the things that go wrong are different: a quote that changes once the truck is loaded, a delivery window that stretches from days into weeks, and no clear answer about who is actually carrying your things. Ask any mover those three questions before you sign. We’d rather answer them now than have you find out later.
Not sure how many hours your move will take, or whether your building's rules will slow the day down? Send us the two addresses and roughly what's moving, and we'll tell you straight — no site visit, no sales call.
Why people trust us with an interstate move
Owned by the movers who show up
The crew on your job is on our payroll — trained, certified and background-checked — never labor hired that morning. Nobody earns commission for upselling you, because nobody here is selling. We’ve completed over 5,000 moves since 2020.
Licensed for California moves
Interstate moving is federally regulated, and that authority is separate from a state license. We hold MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services and USDOT 3810402 with FMCSA — licensed, insured and bonded, carrying up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover. We are not currently authorized for interstate for-hire moves. If your move crosses a state line we will tell you before you book and point you to a carrier who is authorized. You can check any mover’s authority yourself at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
What an interstate move costs, and why
Three things set the price: how much is coming with you, how far it’s going, and how hard the access is at each end. A third-floor walk-up in Sacramento and a narrow street in Phoenix cost more time than the miles between them.
Timing is the fourth. A fixed delivery date costs more than a flexible window — if your dates can move, say so and we’ll price it that way.
You get the number online, from what you tell us. If something changes, you hear it before the work continues, not in a revised invoice after your things are two states away.

Two addresses, a rough inventory, and the date you need to be in. You’ll have a price without a site visit or a sales call.
Where we move people
Out of California. Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Colorado — and further east when the job calls for it.
Homes and offices. Same crew, same standard, whether it’s a one-bedroom or a small company relocating its staff.
Partial and single-item. One room, one office, or one piece too heavy or too valuable to put in a rental truck.
Every job is done by our own employees — trained, certified and background-checked. We’re licensed, insured and bonded: MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, USDOT 3810402 with FMCSA, with up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover.

Staying inside California? Long-distance moving is the page you want. If delivery and move-in don’t fall on the same day, storage holds everything in between. Interstate jobs are the ones where packing quality decides what arrives intact, so consider professional packing. For a piano, see piano moving; for high-value pieces that need crating and a slower pair of hands, white-glove service.

FAQ
How much does a move cost?
Rates start at $159/hour for two movers and a 16ft truck, $199/hour for three movers and a 26ft truck, $249/hour for four, and $299/hour for five. Add a one-time $99 flat rate for truck and gas, whatever truck size you need. You price the job yourself online — pick your crew, date and addresses and the quote comes back in minutes. No in-home visit, no sales call.
What isn’t included in the hourly rate?
Six things, all of them listed up front: the $99 flat rate for truck and gas; packing supplies such as boxes, paper and bubble wrap; a $200 handling fee for any single item over 250 lbs (piano, gun safe, pool table, treadmill, massage chair); double drive time when your two addresses are more than 10 miles apart; overnight storage; and custom crating or specialty handling for antiques and delicate pieces.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Smoove holds MTR0192675 with the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services and USDOT 3810402 with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and carries up to $1,000,000 in general liability cover. Basic cargo protection for your household goods is included in every move. Both license numbers are public records — look them up before you book, with us or anyone else.
What areas do you serve?
The Sacramento region and the Bay Area — more than 70 cities, from Auburn and Elk Grove through to San Jose and Walnut Creek. We also handle long-distance moves within California, originating in either region. We are not currently authorized for interstate moves, so if you are leaving the state we will tell you straight away and point you to a carrier who is.
For thirteen of those cities we have written up the local parking rules, permits and truck access, and what each one actually means on move day: Sacramento, West Sacramento, Folsom, Rocklin, Placerville, El Dorado Hills, Stockton, Manteca, San Francisco, San Mateo, Walnut Creek, Vallejo and Petaluma.
